Why I Love Being a Private Investigator
8 Reasons Why I Love the Job
-
1. Excitement of the Unknown
If there’s one thing I can say about being a Private Investigator, it’s that you NEVER know what you are going to get.
We aren’t limited by many confines (except the law). Because of this, Private Investigators can be a catch all for assisting in complex issues. That means we receive calls on ANY topic you can think of.
-
2. Independence
Because we aren’t limited by many confines, being a Private Investigator is very different than your average desk job.
Many investigators work as their own boss. They can make the call on which cases they take and what clients they like to work with. They also have the ability to determine their rates, hours, and travel preferences.
Even when working at a firm or agency, Private Investigators typically have more flexibility over how they do their work. Due to the high level of creativity necessary to solve each case its often best for the cases lead investigator to develop their own strategy.
At Katella, we work under the guidance of a lead investigator with a team problem solving approach. This allows us to ensure a high level of quality, while utilizing the creative skills of each of our Investigators.

3. The Challenge
Every case we work is different and requires a unique approach to solving it. There is truly never a boring day on the job as a private investigator. We are constantly considering new tactics and strategies to uncover evidence and help us win on cases.
-
4. The Rush of the Chase
When we are hot in pursuit of a suspect or lead, the rush of the chase can be exhilarating. In the most tense moments of an investigation, we must think quickly and make split-second decisions to finish the investigation successfully.
When it comes to working the cases, there is something thrilling about not knowing what is going to happen next. When we are chasing down a lead, it can be the same feeling you get at the top of the roller coaster. Exhilarating, nerve-wracking, or both.
-
5. Closing a Case
When a case comes to closing it gives us the opportunity to reflect. Often, it means the case has been resolved and justice has been served or important evidence uncovered. It helps bring closure to our clients, and often the investigators themselves.
There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes along after the chase, when you’ve successfully helped uncover something hidden. The work we do isn’t always easy, a lot of times it can be emotionally exhausting, but the pay off is worth it.
-
6. Finding Justice
As Private Investigators, we have the opportunity to help people who may not otherwise have anyone to turn to. We can help them get the answers they need, and deliver the justice they deserve.
There are a few cases in particular that come to mind as I write this. People whose names and stories remain permanently etched in my mind. I can recall the 20-year old who we got our of a wrongful conviction, or the friends we have reconnected after decades. That makes it all worth it.

7. Meeting New People
As Private investigators, we have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. We have a wide array of clients, from regular families to law firms and corporations.
-
8. Impacting Lives
Above all else, I love my job because it gives me the ability to help people.
From missing persons investigations to child welfare cases, what we do has an impact on our clients lives. We provide our clients with information and evidence they couldn’t get on their own. This helps people to make important decisions in their lives, or take action against someone who has done them wrong. In some cases, Private Investigators can even help save lives.
Being a Private Investigator isn’t the easiest job. It’s unpredictable, challenging, and ever-changing. But when you reach success in a case, it makes it all worth it.
